Gem: Gem Member of Parliament Elisha Odhiambo has praised The National Treasury for implementing stringent measures to ensure that contractors working for County governments receive prompt payment immediately after completing their tasks.
According to Kenya News Agency, the Legislator highlighted the introduction of a system that links committed Local Purchase Orders (LPOs) to the Office of the Controller of Budget and The National Treasury. This initiative is expected to eliminate the issue of pending bills, which has been a persistent problem.
Speaking to the media after meeting members of the Church of Christ in Africa at Ramula in East Gem Location, Siaya County, Odhiambo expressed concern over the long wait contractors have faced for payments. He noted that funds intended to clear their dues have often been redirected to unbudgeted activities.
Odhiambo commended the Cabinet Secretary for Treasury, John Mbadi, for establishing a system that ensures debtors in County governments can be paid directly, preventing the diversion of funds to other entities. He emphasized that this decision would protect entrepreneurs from corrupt county officials who have previously hindered timely payment.
The Legislator attributed this initiative to President William Ruto, expressing optimism that people doing business in counties will now receive timely payments without interference from corrupt individuals.
In addition, Odhiambo urged the government to ensure that all Affordable Housing projects incorporate solar panels, advocating for the adoption of green energy in line with global trends. He also called on Kenyans to appreciate leaders who excel in their roles, citing the Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi for fair electricity distribution and Head of National Intelligence Service Noordin Haji for safeguarding the nation.
