Abidjan, 23rd Jan 2022 (AIP) – The government of Burkina Faso denies rumors of a coup, as heavy gunfire has been heard in military camps in the capital Ouagadougou and other cities of the country since the night of Saturday January 22, 2022.
“Information conveyed in social networks tends to make believe in a takeover by the army on this day January 23, 2022; the government, while recognizing the effectiveness of shooting in certain barracks, denies this information and calls on the populations to remain calm”, announces a press release signed by the government spokesperson, Alkassoum Maïga, received by the AIP on Sunday January 23, 2022.
The Burkinabé government “reaffirms its confidence in our army which remains republican”, concludes the press release.
