Côte d’Ivoire – AIP / The Minister of Higher Education satisfied with the progress of work at the University of Bondoukou

Bondoukou, Jan 22, 2022 (AIP) – The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Adama Diawara, expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the construction works of the University of Bondoukou, in following a site visit on Friday 21 January 2022.

“I leave very satisfied. I see that the work is very advanced,” said Minister Adama Diawara, adding that he is fully confident that in October 2022, this university will be able to open its doors as promised by the head of the Ivorian state.

The minister praised the quality of the materials used and the equipment provided. This is to meet the challenge of insufficient intake capacity in public universities.

The courses will start with 400 students at first, then 3000 students will be registered for the first phase which will eventually lead to the presence of 20,000 students, said Professor Adama Diawara.

According to officials of the university decentralization program (PDU), the progress of the work of this major university is estimated at 30%. The major works, namely the library, the school of architecture, the language and course rooms as well as the training and research units (UFR) are being finished, they noted.

Bondoukou University, the first stone of which was laid in December 2019 by former Prime Minister Amadou Gon Coulibaly, covers an area of 305 ha. It will train high-level executives in the fields of architecture, town planning, art and languages, human sciences and sustainable development. A faculty of medicine attached to a university hospital is also planned.
