Employment and Social policy

The Council will hold a policy debate on the 2016 European Semester. It will take note of progress made on the accessibility directive and on posting of workers directive.

Health

The Council is invited to adopt conclusions on food products improvement, the fight against antimicrobial resistance and the EU pharmaceutical system.  

Economic and Financial Affairs Council, 17 June 2016

The Council may agree on a draft directive tackling corporate tax avoidance, and will discuss the prevention of VAT fraud. It will be called on to approve a ‘roadmap’ on strengthening the EU’s banking union.
The Council is due to approve draft country-specific recommendations on the member states’ economic and fiscal policies, and is expected to close excessive deficit procedures for Cyprus, Ireland and Slovenia.

Environment Council, 20 June 2016

The Council will adopt a statement on the ratification of the Paris agreement and discuss the review of the emissions trading system. It will also adopt conclusions on circular economy and on wildlife trafficking.

Foreign Affairs Council, 20 June 2016

The Council will discuss the integrated EU policy for the Arctic. Foreign Affairs ministers will then review the situation in Sahel, taking stock of the EU comprehensive approach to security and development in the region. They will also address the situation in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. The Council will finally discuss the Middle East peace process.

The Council is also expected to formally extend the mandate of EUNAVFOR MED Operation Sophia by one year, and adding two tasks: training of the Libyan coastguard and Navy, and contributing to the implementation of the United Nations arms embargo on the high seas off the coast of Libya.
