Over 1000 learners from Igwamiti ward, Nyahururu Sub County in Laikipia County have benefitted from the Laikipia County bursary funds worth over 5 million.

Overseeing the disbursement of the funds, Igwamiti ward MCA Irene Wacuka called on the government to consider funding the bursary kitty according to population.

Speaking in Munyaka secondary in Nyahururu town, the legislator regretted that it is unfortunate that some wards have a high population yet they get the same allocation as wards with low populations.

She at the same time advised parents to consider taking their children to local vocational colleges arguing that the centers impart quick skills to the learners thus making them venture into the job market quickly.

She said that the county had funded every student who applied for a bursary from the vocational training centers because they wanted to encourage more students to join the institutions and pursue technical courses.

Moreover, the MCA encouraged teenage mothers to ensure they get back to
school after giving birth saying that a child should not shutter their dreams to continue with their education.

However, she at the same time called for stern action for the perpetrators of teenage pregnancies to be arrested and be prompted to take equal responsibilities while raising the child.

On his side, Laikipia County Health CeC member Wagura Taiti, who had accompanied the MCA, urged parents to invest all they could in education because it is a lifetime investment and could be a gateway to prosperity for their children.

”Education is the key to everything and also the levels of development are normally directly proportional to the levels of education,” Wagura said.

He at the same time promised to ensure the county government allocates more money in the next quota to education bursaries to ensure as many learners remain in school to avoid the vices outside the classrooms.
