Kitui County Inaugurates 4,000 Trained Contractors in Development Push

Kitui – The National Construction Authority (NCA) has inaugurated 4,000 contractors in Kitui County, following a comprehensive training program funded jointly by the NCA and the Kitui county government. The program is designed to enhance the capabilities of local contractors in delivering quality services.

According to Kenya News Agency, During the graduation ceremony in Kitui town, County Governor Dr. Julius Malombe emphasized the training’s objective to empower contractors from all eight sub-counties. The aim is to enable them to effectively handle government contracts, thereby increasing their income. The training program catered to both existing and emerging contractors in the construction sector.

According to Governor Malombe, the training was tailored to impart a blend of technical, business, and soft skills vital for success in the construction industry. A significant focus was on familiarizing participants with government tendering processes. The four-day program covered a range of topics including stakeholder engagement, documentation, and record-keeping, crucial for managing their companies.

Dr. Malombe highlighted that the intensive training provides a competitive edge, enabling contractors to formally engage with government institutions, the private sector, and financial lenders for support in their projects. He noted that the training has equipped them with the necessary knowledge and expertise to significantly contribute to the government’s development agenda.

The governor also underscored the importance of skilled contractors in local community development, from public infrastructure projects to private construction works. He urged the contractors to maintain integrity and timely completion of projects without compromising quality and financial probity, essential for efficient service delivery.

The 4,000 contractors, representing 100 from each of the county’s 40 wards, included newly registered and already registered contractors. Morris Aketch, director of the National Construction Authority, praised the Kitui County Government’s initiative to train, financially empower, and grow local contractors, enhancing their livelihoods.

This program is set to create a pool of skilled professionals capable of undertaking government contracts, thereby fostering sustainable development and prosperity in Kitui County.
