SOUTH AFRICAN WOMEN STILL NOT AT TOP ECHELONS OF PROPERTY SECTOR

JOHANNESBURG– Women in South Africa have still not advanced to the top echelons of the property sector whether as property owners or as leaders of established companies, according to Women’s Property Network, a women’s rights organization focusing on the property industry.

The organization said here Monday that was no or very few listed property companies which are led by women and that gender transformation in the sector has been slow.

It is also about fixing glaring gender disparities which are endemic in the sector, said the owner of the firm of Dineo Molomo Properties, Dineo Molomo, who describes transformation in the industry as slow.

Starting up a property company in this sector has been difficult. We are all competing against each other and a lot of these companies have been around since 1994 and even before then,” she noted.

“Looking for the right property takes time and potential buyers are always on the look-out for a good bargain. Estate agents have to know their stuff, they have to do their homework properly when it comes to the area, schools, home-owners’ rights, the rights of tenants, etc.
