[FrontPageAfrica] Monrovia -The Mano River Union (MRU) comprising of four West African countries including Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone and the Ivory Coast have officially established a National Advisory Committee (NAC) to supervise and manage the transboundary water resources in the Moa-Makona and Cavalla water basins respectively. The decision was reached at the end of a one day stakeholders meeting held in Monrovia Thursday, September 26, 2019.

A.whereas Operation Sovereign Borders has ensured that any boat attempting to reach the Australian coast illegally is intercepted and returned to its port of departure;
B.whereas migrants processed in specialised detention centres on the small island state of Nauru or on the island of Manus in Papua New Guinea may be accommodated in other countries after being granted refugee status but are prevented from seeking asylum in Australia;
C.whereas Australian policy on the management of illegal immigration allows for coastal control and national security measures, while the Mediterranean continues to be the site of tragic shipwrecks, and the recent events in Paris have confirmed the theory that terrorists who cause death and destruction throughout Europe are hiding among the ranks of asylum seekers;
D. whereas many countries worldwide have shown interest in the workings of the Australian Operation Sovereign Borders;
1. Calls on the Commission to assess whether Australian policy on illegal immigration could be taken as a possible model for revising the EU’s management system, which has proved to be wholly ineffective to date.
