FAMILIES IN SHOCK AFTER 18 DIE IN COLLISION BETWEEN TRUCK, TWO MINIMBUSES IN SOUTH AFRICA

NELSPRUIT, Families of 18 people who died during a collision between two minibuses and a truck in South Africa’s Mpumalanga Province have been devastated and left in shock.

The crash occurred on Tuesday morning on the R541 between Badplaas and Machadodorp. The two minibus taxis were transporting mine workers in the early hours of the morning.

It is alleged that the minibuses were overtaking each other when they both collided with the truck which was coming from the opposite direction. The drivers of both minibuses are among those who died at the scene.

Family members of some of the crash victims who managed to get to the scene have expressed shock. They also raised concerns about the failure of ambulances to arrive in time.

Seventeen injured people have been admitted to various hospitals and the Mpumalanga provincial government has promised to provide assistance to the affected families.
