Côte d’Ivoire – AIP / ISMI will train officers in the management of armed robberies, maritime piracy and illicit trafficking

The Interregional Maritime Security Institute (ISMI) located within the Regional Academy of Marine Sciences and Techniques (ARSTM) of Abidjan will train from 05 to 16 July 2021, officers in the management of cases of armed robbery , maritime piracy and illicit trafficking.

This training is part of the implementation of the SWAIMS-FORMAR program which aims to strengthen the technical capacities of civilian and military professionals from States of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) working in national and regional maritime surveillance coordination centers.

The SWAIMS-FORMAR program, amounting to one billion FCFA (1.5 million euros), will finance 16 training cycles between 2021 and 2024 and is part of the support of the Union European to the Integrated Maritime Strategy of ECOWAS.

Thirty officers (Military Navy, Maritime Affairs, Customs, Police / Gendarmerie, etc.) who exercise judicial police powers, from ECOWAS and ECCAS countries will take part in this technical capacity building financed by the European Union.

At the end of the seminar, these learners will have to be better equipped with regard to the observation of maritime piracy offenses, armed robberies and illicit trafficking, investigation and management of a crime scene.

A practical boarding and excavation exercise that will take place on Thursday, July 15 aboard a patrol vessel from the Ivorian National Navy will mark the highlight of this seminar.
