Côte d’Ivoire-AIP / Anoblé Félix invites the populations of the flood-prone areas of San-Pedro to evacuate

Mayor Anoblé Félix invited, Thursday, July 1, 2021, the populations of his municipality to evacuate risky sites and areas already inundated, to avoid putting their lives in danger.

The mayor launched this appeal at the end of a visit he made successively to the Rotary club center, to the site of the timber yard and to the SOTREF, Victor Ballet, Colas, Corridor de Tabou and Zimbabwe districts, to inquire about flood damage from recent torrential rains.

According to the chief magistrate of the municipality of San-Pedro, the great rainy season in the region has not really started, but already the floods have caused the death of two children and material damage.

He advised residents of areas at risk to move to developed reception sites, including schools, accommodation centers, while waiting for the end of the rainy season.

Félix Anoblé announced that all homes built on land at risk or considered dangerous will be destroyed. Like last year, Anoblé intends to carry out an operation to demolish high-risk buildings, while seizing the prosecutor at the San-Pedro court of first instance for criminal sanctions against all rebellious people who indulge in these bad behaviors. .

These floods could be avoided in San-Pedro, because they are predictable, taking into account the low level of the city compared to that of the sea. However, the recalcitrant populations persisting in bad behavior (embankments of certain grounds and constructions anarchic) prevent the flow of rainwater and rivers to natural outlets, causing overflows, he concluded.
